When Moon Is Full....(La Luna Llena)

Cada día el sol es nuevo
y cada noche en alguna parte
con vetusta cara le sonríe luna....

Who is blue when moon is full
before the sun drowns in silhouettes
etched by treetops

consumed in the fire shadows of western skies
where die days one by one

in slithering timeless night?

Do you hear the bright snow sliding into gray?

Do you see the rain?

Do you caress her tearful tresses and feel moist earth
under denuded sole?

To-night (Nuestra Noche)

To-night

The moon is a curving flower of gold,
The sky is still and blue;
The moon was made for the sky to hold,
And I for you;

The moon is a flower without a stem,
The sky is luminous;
Eternity was made for them,
To-night for us.

Sara Teasdale

Nuestra Noche

¿Lloras?... Entre los álamos de oro,
lejos, la sombra del amor te aguarda.

Antonio Machado

Countryside

The afternoon is dying
as a humble hearth is quenched.
There--over the mountains
a few embers remain.
And, oh--that broken tree on the white road
makes for weeping from deepest grief.
Two branches on the wounded trunk and on
each a black and withered leaf!
Are you weeping?...Among golden poplars--
far, far away--the shade of love is waiting for you.

Si quiero ser pequeña…(Mariana Sansón Argüello)

Si quiero ser pequeña,
me siento junto al mar.
Y si quiero ser grande,
tomo el agua en mis manos
y la dejo pasar.
Si quiero las dos cosas,
pienso que soy.

Mariana Sansón Argüello

If I wish to be wee...

If I wish to be wee
I sit by the sea.
If I wish to be grand
I cup water in my hands
and let it run through.
If I want the two of them
I think that I am....

Revolución (León Felipe)

Siempre habrá nieve altanera
que vista de monte de armiño
y agua humilde que trabaje
en la presa del molino.

Y siempre habrá un sol también
--un sol verdugo y amigo--
que trueque en llanto la nieve
y en nube el agua del río.

There will forever be high snow
to dress the mountain in ermine
and lowly water to work
in the miller's dam.

And there will ever be a sun as well--
a sun who is friend and hangman--
to trade snow for a flood of tears
and river's flowing water for cloud.
